I think my pansies have about had it for now. They are really leggy and have powdery mildew (and it is only the end of June!). I will cut them back and bring them inside until it gets cooler in the fall. In the meantime, what else can I plant in a different basket on the front door. It is a smaller basket. and a Northen exposure. And I do not want impatiens or the bigger begonias. Would the smaller begonias work (I don't know the names of the different kinds.)? I saw some beauties at Agway for $1.99. Any other suggestions?

I'm a big fan of scaveola, bacopa, calibrachoa. I also found a unique euphorbia at a nursery up the road - was told it was new, and can't remember the name for you, but it has fine green leaves and composite white flowers -- was told it would thicken tremendously through the year - I have two in two separate baskets on my patio....
Just my 2 cents

Will those all grow in the shade? I will probably not find anything too unusual or new here.

I took mine down too. I'm getting tired of pinching them to keep the bloom going.

You can't put anything in that wants to go wild because of the size of the basket. I wonder if there's a perennial that might work. I'll think about it.

What happened to the hardy geranium idea?

I can't remember which ones you suggested. And do they flower in the fall?

Hi BensMom98, most of my yard is full sun, so I don't have too much experience with shade plants, but I have 2 pots with the smaller begonias under my gazebo that look wonderful. I also love heliotrope for the shade, but I would try to pair it with something else for a more striking presentation. I'm sort of in the same boat with "now what" to plant - I have this large pot that I want to plant up, but it receives mostly shade, and I want a perennial so I don't have to replant every few months!

I was thinking of one with small flowers. I'm not too familiar with them because this is my first year growing them. Some will flower until the first frost. I have Rozanne, which is a vigorous grower, and I think it would not be happy in a small container. I also have a tidy one with a small pink flower that spreads 12 inches, and that one might be happy. Having the same basket as you do, I'm trying to consider the space available for the roots of various annuals and perennials during their growing season.
