I'm contemplating about adding on some Carrots next year.
I've never grown Carrots though, I have no clue what they require, if they'd do well in my garden (as far as sun requirements go), and how much room they need, etc....
So, could someone share their knowledge with me please?
TIA

Garden Guides has a great info page on carrots at:
http://www.gardenguides.com/plants/info/Vegetables /carrots.asp
This page has so much information on it that it makes it sound harder than it really is. Growing carrots is easy.

I blogged last month about the carrots in my yard, which included a picture:

This forum oftentimes inserts a blank space in a website address that is posted, so to access the pages you will need to remove the space from the path when copying it to the web browsers address bar.

If you plant carrots this time of year, they will probably be harvestable in fall and winter, which are my personal favorite.

Sow seeds 1/4-1/2" deep
Geminate in about 6 days.
Carrots like soil with a ph above 6
Space them 2" apart
N=high P=low K=low
It like full sun but will tolerate shade

Carrots like their roots cool but their tops warm. When soil temp. rises above 70 F the carrots will be small and bland tasteing. To give carrots the conditions they like use a layer of organic mulch (like grass clippings).

Hope this helps.

Make sure the soil is airy and loose with no stones
