When I repot or have used potting soil I put it in one of the many places in the yard that is a low spot. Since we moved here almost 5 years ago we have been gradually trying to work at that so it makes good use of the soil. |

well i just work with herbs thesedays in pots when im picking from my herbs im picky what i keep what goes back to the soil fer compost an yea will be my 5th year with 1 pot same soil thru the years no issues yet ive a MUCH bigger pot i think its in 3rd year same soil agin what i do is at the beginning of the season i save all the seedlings i can as legit plants that ive had before(catnip mints whatevers re-seeded from last year) then i mix up the soil far as i can with my hands (we dont have decent shovels an i rather like using my hands) thats usially enough tho i do keep what i call indicater herbs in alteast 1 of my pots (i have 3 hoping i can get 2 more have 6--theres 1 sitting with broken pieces in it-- the more the better) ive found pineapple sage to be a great one bascally they in there way tell me when something is needed fer the pot my example has usially told me the plants need water once it told me they needed more sun so yea oh fergot ta mention i usially use whatever CHEAP soil/manure i can get generally that means the farm an fleet stuff topsoil works well fer me with my outdoor pots(big no-no aint it??) |

.. .Oh I like that idea...it gets pretty expensive when I have to pot up my plants...adding the slow release fertilizer is a good idea...and amending the garden soil with it too. Thanks for the ideas...my hubby will be thankful, lol

You can add organic materials in it so that the soil will have nutrients added. Soil will never lose its nutrients totally so you can be sure some nutrients are still there even if the soil were used for planting the past years. |
