: SPIDER MITES are really challenging, just when i think i eliminated them they come back,i have TROPICAL PLANTS HELICONIAS AND BIRD OF PARADISE inside my home then during spring and summer i bring them outside, i noticed that outside the SPIDER MITES are controlled biologically by other predators like LADY BUGS and SPIDERS(i love them they are like my GARDEN'S DOGS ),etc..., so i avoid to use PESTICIDES because i will eliminate the GOOD BUGS and the SPIDER MITES will THRIVE AGAIN FREELY.I will during the winter TRY to use some recommended SOAP WATER, AND PESTICIDES WHEN I BRING PLANTS BACK INSIDE THE HOUSE.I have tried washing them with soap and water and even added pesticides it CONTROLLED the spider mites but they always come back again, absolutely FRUSTRATING.

Spider Mites are too tiny to see until the infestation is really bad, unless you turn off all the lights and BACKLIGHT the plant. Even better if the plant is wet. Then the webs show up. Way back when Ron was still around he taught me to make a mix of 3 parts water to 1 part rubbing alcohol (50% solution Isopropyl). Spray all over the plant, wet your fingers and rub on the UNDERSIDE of all the leaves. Do not forget to do the pot and the saucer, under the rims and under the pot and the saucer. Spray the soil too. Do this once a week for two weeks. Should hold for a good while, but do a backlit check once in a while. Hope this helps you as it has helped me. As for outdoors, the ladybugs do a fine job. damselfly (aka gimpy2) |
