All the other lily of the valley threads that I could find had to do with getting rid of it. I have a different problem. All of my other spring blooming perennials are coming up (columbine and bleeding heart) and I have other things starting. My lily of the valley that I planted in a raised bed is not doing anything. Is it because it is in a raised bed? (I thought they were hardy to zone 3 so I thought that it would be OK as I am zone 4 almost 5.) Is it too soon?

Mo, crocus, bleeding hearts, and columbines are the first to arrive. You can always brush a little soil away and look for signs of your lily-of-the valley, but I'm sure it'll announce its arrival soon.

As a child in the UK we had this perennial under some kind of bush. I loved it, it had a really sweet perfume, it came back faithfully every year in the spring, if I remember correctly.
I checked your albums to see if there were any pictures of it BM, sadly not.

No not yet, but the sprouts are getting bigger. We are WAY behind this year becuase of our "prolonged" winter.

typically, LoV is not an early emerger, but is tough as nails.... so consider it a mid to late spring rite.

Come to think of it, it's May's birthday flower, so it must bloom in May.

Actually we had a HUGE "growing" day today. The shoots are more like 5 in long and starting to look like leaves and not shoots.
