Where I live is always warm, year round. I figured it would be better to grow flowers that don't die off after they have flowered. So, if someone could help me out with the definition of 'perennial' I'd really appreciate it. I'm assuming that 'annuals' bloom once? or do they? Thanks. Quote \| Reply \| Report

Perennials are normally hardy plants, most of which die down to the ground each year and survive the winter on food stored in underground stems and return the next year. Quote \| Reply \| Report

trudy Joined: 6/02/2006 Location: SW Georgia Posts: 404	Posted: Apr/03/2007 4:53 PM PST A perennial comes back every year and typically blooms once a year for a decent period of time, some bloom all during the warm season. An annual blooms heavily and doesn't come back. Annual have to be replaced every season/year depending on where u live. Cold/frost usually kills annuals, perennials depending on what it is the cold will cause them to go dormant (foliage die back) then come spring start growing again. Perennial or annual doesn't matter if it's too cold or in your case, with a tropical climate, too hot for certain plants. I haven't been here for a while and this new format is freaking me out, but there is probably still a page with zones to tell you what yours is. Knowing what will grow where you live will help a lot when deciding what to plant. Warm climates have higher numbers. Quote \| Reply \| Report
