This is my first winter feeding birds and I have a question. Do you guys feed in the summer? It is 70 degrees here and almost spring lots of things leafing out. I know I need to put out hummer feeders but what about regular feeders? |

I feed year round. I only put a couple of feeders out in winter, black sunflower and shelled peanut feeders. I also put out a suet feeder but take it in in summer as it gets pretty messy with the heat. In summer, I have about six feeders out in different locations, not counting my hummer feeders. |

I feed in the summer but not as often. I have hoardes of squirrels that hang upside down on my feeders. I plan to put my hummingbird feeder back outside tomorrow. |

I feed birds year round. In spring, most of natures offerings are long gone. Birds are busy migrating, mating and nesting. They need food to keep up their strength. After the young birds fledge, Many parents will bring the juveniles to feed and teach them to feed. In late summer and fall, birds are on the migrayion trail. Keep feeders out, you may be surprised what visits your yard. Add fresh water, as this will attract more birds. Ron www.gardening-for-wildlife.com |
