What type of fern is this?

I have this fern that is very light and airy and I just love it. I can't find it in any nurseries or stores anywhere. My mother in law gave it to me when she thinned hers out and she said a friend had given it to her from California. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Susie, this looks like some type of maidenhair fern to me.

Yes, it is very delicate like those. These fronds tend to be "sticky" in the sense that they 'catch' on lower fronds and in order to pull them apart you have to do so carefully or the fronds will break. I could be wrong and maybe it's not even a fern, but I would love to know!
