Ornamental Grasses; ............. they need to be burned or cut down before new growth starts...the blaze is fast and goes pretty high, so don't burn if there are trees or wires overhead......If you decide to cut it down to new growth, you can tie the many stems together tightly, and then cut well below it..that way you don't have a pile of stems to pick up..its already in a bundle.

Roses;......remove branches that cross , cut back to green growth, especially those climbers that whip around in the wind....

Have your pepper seeds planted by now.

Peppers are slow growers and need a few extra weeks to get a good start.

Fertilize early blooming spring bulbs.

Turn the compost piles

If you're not in rain soaked Ohio , you can start working the soil.

everything is popping at once..Magnolias, redbuds, wildflowers (bloodroot, dutchmens breeches, hepatica, Spring Beauties, Lenten Rose,...) If you're a notebook keeper, nows the time to really check on locations, maybe keep a photo log with those wonderful digetal cameras, so you don't accidently dig into bulbs or whatever, when the annuals get planted...) Try not to walk on wet flower beds...the soil will compact as it dries.....Empty any containers that catch water..mosquitos are around already...VIVA SPRING!

I live in SW OH--Dayton area and we finally had a nice day today. Going to be yucky again this weekend. But I did clean out a whole flower bed under my redbud tree. I don't know if the tree will bloom or not. It looks pretty "nipped" right now after more than a week of freezing temps, snow showers and rain. There is so much more to do, but I had to start somewhere and don't feel so guilty about being behind in my maintenance.
