I just went outside and suddenly (as of noon today) my dragon houseplant's leaves became yellowed and white. A few leaves pulled right off... I have little idea what could happen so suddenly but I have a few ideas if anyone has had a similar experience:

  • Overfed with nitrogen fertilizing stick? I put 1 stick in weeks ago so I don't know why it would have a reaction now...
  • Upstairs apartment neighbors poured some kind of chemical into potter (they are mad at me)
  • temperature drop from low 60's at noon to low 50's now (when I noticed it)?

It was fine at noon. Hopefully my picture is attached. Thanks!

Yes, it had been out there for at least week in similar weather. I thought it needed more light than it could get inside and it seems to have liked that idea since it has new shoots and leaves growing for a month now...

It may be the cold...I would hate to think that a neighbor would do something so nasty...

i really don't think 50 temps would do this. one thing i never do is fertilize mine. mainly because i forget. not sure if that would have this effect or not.

The only dracaenas I grew was Draco, and Foz is right about that, I never fertilized it either. Hm, overfertilizing, underwatering, and maybe too potbound. Maybe you should transplant and knock off the dirt to get them happy again? I looked around and that seems to be a common complaint with the three reasons above being most often a cure. one person repotted in the same pots just new dirt to get rid of fertilizer and misted them regularly.

Wondering if the stems feel firm or mushy?
Living in N.C. myself, I know we've had some very cold nights within the past week,
I haven't moved any of my tropicals out yet, and I'm way down on the coast, near S.C.
It could be cold damage that has taken a couple of days to show.
