If anyone has ever built a screened-in back porch, I'd like to hear about your experience (and see your pics!) We'd like to be able to sit outside in the evening without the mosquitos, have some shelter from the sun, which hits our deck right at dinnertime in July, and possibly even sleep out there on hot summer nights. We built a deck a few years ago and wonder if we could build a frame with screened windows and a roof on top of it. So I'm wondering if that's even possible, before I get carried away with thinking about nice wicker chairs and botanical print cushions and pillows.....

That's really attractive, Ron! Love your clay fireplace! Rick mentioned that option but I though it'd feel like sitting inside a tent if it had zipped-in screens. It might also get hot inside. |

I would love to screen it in completely, but everything I see is soo pricey. Some of the screen house options come with a price almost as high as the deck itself was, lol. I actually just came accross an advertisement in Popular Science for ready to go screen room kits, that looked pretty interesting. I'll take a look for the ad when I get home later and update the thread with the info. |

We're painting our LR, DR, kitchen, and entryway next week :carrot: , we have to build a gate and fence on our side yards to keep the dogs from wandering into the back, and the front porch needs painting. Then we want to put in a brick path in the garden. So there goes Rick's two-month sabbatical!

But I might have some pics on my other PC from last year, I'll take a look. It is a really nice system. Another one I looked at was Underdeck but it was more expensive and a more detailed install, woudl have required the decking be pulled up, so I went with Dry-B-Lo instead. I also got 2 outdoor ceiling fans from home depot, and one of those misting systems that hooks up to the hose. On hot days I turn on the misting system and the fans and it cools you off better then any air conditioner, lol. EDIT: Here is the link from Popular Science Magazine. http://www.sunporch.com/ |
