I have had a potted bay laurel tree for several years now, and up until lately, it's been happy. Every summer, it is outside ~ in the winter, I bring it inside. I have it in a southeast facing sunny window. But suddenly it is drying up and dropping leaves. At first, I thought it was being aggravated by the heat vent just beneath the window, so I moved it to another location, but it doesn't seem any happier ~ still dropping leaves, and all the leaves on the lower part of the 24" plant are dry or drying. I give it sufficient water. Anyone know what's up?
Thanks!

When is the last time you repotted? I have had a few in the past and they do demand a bigger pot, most of mine ended up in almost dolly sized pots in the end (even though I still made them moderate bonsai). They didn't seem to like too much water either, maybe mix some gravel in your next repotting, mine loved that. Something I did one year that was indispensable. The light panels you see in the 4 ft light fixtures, have the inverted triangles and made out of translucent plastic? I cut them to just above the height of my tree and made a mini greenhouse with the triangles pointed inwards. It could snow on that and my tree was happy, wish I had a pic for you, but that was a few years ago. Maybe next year, once I have a yard again!!!

Mine does well. Maybe too much water? Not enough sun? I say re-potting to a larger pot is always a great idea. You tree will just grow bigger too. Well, now just gather up all the fallen leves and put them in soups and stews and sauces. Best of luck, let us know how its doing. Hey treeman........any ideas?

Thanks SO much for your replies ~ every little bit helps! I am very careful about water ~ I know they don't like too much. But the repotting thing ~ hmmmm ~ that could be the ticket. It hasn't been repotted since we moved to KY, more than 2 years. Maybe the soil is just flat outta goodies! I will give it a shot. Can't wait until I can put it back outdoors again ~ another couple of months here.

I am looking for a local supplier of bay laurel trees. My mom had one in the past and I would like to find one for a gift. I know I can order one online, but would like to use a local nursery if possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
