Looking for a ground cover for zone 3 that will grow under pine trees, shade and dry? Any ideas? |

columbine grows under the pines at my sisters and she's zone 3. Hosta's are good for dry shade if you get the right one. how about "Lamium" - Spotted Dead Nettles: Plant spotted dead nettles in partial to full shade and in acidic, well-drained soil. Good choice for dry shade and it flowers. Pachysandra (this is a look from the 1960's! It was very popular under trees as a ground cover) |

You can also try Periwinkle (Vinca minor). I have huge carpets of it under my pines. I think it was planted in around 1976. It will bloom sporadically from spring to fall. I think Lamium is also a very good choice. |

My neighbor has a number of pines in her back yard and she mostly has hosta under them. She also has a few that are right up against my property line. Both of us have Coral Bells, Brunnera, and Periwinkle around them. |

We are trying borage under our pine, so far so good and the dogs have trampled it into the ground 3 times since we planted it last month. |
