What are your thoughts on 4 on 1 apple trees?

I am looking to buy 1, where is a good place to buy one?

So far just Henry Fields and Gurneys have them listed.

I would see no problem in having one. They are basically 4 varieties grafted onto a common rootstock. There is alwys he chance that one or more of the grafts may fail, in which case you would have less than 4 varieties.

I grew up on a farm with a 'farmhouse apple'. Basically, with a lack of space for anything growing (even with 400 acres) we had one appel tree with 6 or 7 different apple varieties on it. They are COOL! If one variety goes, go find someone with an apple tree and ask if you can have a small branch, get some mastic, score your main tree with a wedge, stick the branch on and mastic around it after tying it on (my preference is nylon, minimal scar, maximum stretch). Give it a bit, first sign of new growth - take off the nylon. I love grafting, and it can have beautiful rewards!

if anyone is still interested, home depot has them - 2 in 1 and 4 in one - and they were selling for about 40.00 - nice size trees too - I didn't buy because the tree was too big for me to handle, but will hire somone to help me nex year.

Be careful with Home Depot plants. I've purchased mislabeled plants from them in the past.

Funny you should say, that, Mario! Yesterday I was in Home Depot (I'm looking for Coral Honeysuckle), and there was your standard wild honeysuckle IN BLOOM, in a pot labeled yellow jasmine. And, there were some yellow jasmine around it, but that one DEFINITELY was not!
