When I was in school and they had "Home Economics" the first sewing project that we did was making an apron - not the bib type, but the tie around the waist type. BOy - I thought I was something and I think everyone got a home make apron that Christmas! I have lots of bib type aprons - a couple of my grandmothers too. My honey gave me an awesome "gingerbread" bib type apron this Christmas, but I hate to wear it and get it dirty!!

I had to think a little...my newer mind remembers the waist aprons of today...and the bib type used before that or for any dirty job where you wanted to stay clean....................but before that..I rememer those aprons with the big frilly piece of cotton around the top part along the chest...sometimes the frill would even go over the back !...that would be my earliest recollection of these almost forgotten pieces from our pasts. I still use them today..but not much for cooking' ..more for working ....

My grandmother always wore and made aprons. I have a few of the ones she made and I wear them mostly at Christmas time. I have one that my grnadmother made me for Christmas as a child (probleably about 3-4 years old) I gave it to my grand daughter for Christmas the year she was 1. My daughter in law has it in Emma's closet and we wore our aprons this past Christmas me 55 years old and Emma 3.
