Foz, do you know when it blooms? It reminds me of my saucer magnolia. Here is a link to some pictures. http://campus.murraystate.edu/academic/faculty/ howard.whiteman/field/plants/saucermag.html |

I have it pegged as a magnolia.... just don't know which one offhand. |

that's what i was thinking...magnolia. the owner of the tree said it blooms in Spring. P&R, you may have nailed it. they sure look the same. |

I think the star magnolia only has a white flower though. That's all I see around here. They're the first of the magnolias to bloom. |

i wish she could've sent me a few pics of the flowers but she doesn't have any. guess i'll have to wait til Spring to find out what those look like. in all fairness to the owner of the tree she took it on good faith the tree was a J. maple when it was given to her. that's what she was told at the time. |

Plants and trees get mislabeled sometimes. |

I'm not familiar with all the varities of Magnolias but I'm leaning towards a Japanese Magnolia with the purple flowers. Will be interesting to see what it is come spring. You'll have to update us come bloom time. trudy |
