i love the idea of color theme gardens and when i first heard of moon gardens i [U]had[/U] to have one. i had a lot of fun finding white blooming and foliage plants that would work well. it sure narrowed down my selections at the nurseries, too.  i decided to use a mixture of white and gold in my garden..white for nighttime and the golds for daytime color. since first building my moon garden i've tried a lot different white plants. a white themed garden doesn't necessarily have to be a moon garden either as long as you have something behind it to bring out the whites such as evergreens, a darker wall, etc.i thought you all might get some enjoyment out of seeing me build my moon garden and also my [U]very dead [/U]lawn that year.  i managed to kill it w/a 'too late' [U]over[/U] application of Kmart weed n' feed. this was my second year gardening and as far as lawns went...well....you can see for yourselves.1. i had already dug out the garden and planted it. i hadn't found the right pavers yet. 2. the pavers are now laid out on top of the ground(please ignore that God awful lawn) 3. i removed the pavers and marked out where i needed to dig w/flour. 4. i started w/the center where the birdbath was going to sit. i dug a 6" deep hole and leveled it. 5. next i put in about landscape fabric and covered that with sand. continued on next post>>>>>> Attachments:      |

6. i've started laying the pavers, beginning with the center circle where the birdbath will sit. 7. now i'm working on the outer edge laying sand and fabric there, too. 8. i brushed sand into all the crevices to 'lock' the pavers in place. 9. it's done!  10. this is my moon garden a few years later and all grown up. notice that nice green lawn?  i had to replace my entire lawn after that fatal year. oh well.........

That is [I]very[/I] nice, Foz! The pavers made a nice edging and base for your birdbath and I love how the birdbath nestles into the plants. It's a sweet garden! I hope you sit on your bench when the moon is full and admire your handiwork! |

thanks Tina and Sweetle. i had fun digging out that photo diary of my first and only paver project. i had forgotten that was the year i killed my lawn.[B]the idea of the thread was not to show off my paver laying skills but to exchange ideas with others on GG about planting white themed gardens and to show that white gardens aren't boring. i'm always on the lookout for new ideas for this garden.[/B] |

I don't think white gardens are boring at all! I have 2 white birches in the corner of my yard and I always thought some white variegated foliage would look nice surrounding them. I think I'm going to experiment with green, silver, and white in that corner. Think it'll be too much white? |

no i don't. not at all. make sure you have some darker green things between the white of the birch bark and your white/silver plantings to make them pop out. |

here's some of my plant suggestions for a white themed garden: white cleome, liatris, cosmos, Casa Blanca lilies, white butterfly lilies, silver star lilies, calla lilies, artemesia Powis Castle. also white alpine strawberries. |
