I was trimming back a big lemon balm today, and look who I found! He wasn't very interested in having his picture taken. Thanks Mare. Sashweezy - I think I'm about as far north as their range goes...anybody have any info on that? What the Praying mantis environment range is? They are cute Mommabear - but they are capable of some amazing stuff - check [URL="http://www.birdwatchersdigest.com/site/backy ardbirds/hummingbirds/mantis-hummer.aspx"]this[/UR L] out. LOL - no doubt Peony - I'm still glad to see them - means the bug population might go down a tad. I need to look into a bat house...my worst insect issue is mosquitoes...bloodsucking boogers. |

Quote: He wont bite! *LOL If you hold him and want him to hang out with you either take the pinches from him holding on or wear a long leave shirt(Thats what I do Originally posted by poetic peony He's cute til he takes a chunk out of your arm! lol Yeah, he is a cute little predator. Cool pictures. )They like people for some reason maybe they figure we are too big to eat and that we can just squoosh 'em so they are friendly*LOL Here you go Kim Welcome to GG! And... Congratulation on your find..be careful when you do clean ups there will be sacs all about Now for the info on where they can be found.. Nearly 2,000 species of mantids are widely distributed throughout tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate areas of the world. Different species live in many parts of countries such as North and South America, South Africa, Europe, the Southern parts of Asia and some parts of Australia. Praying mantids in North America are usually green or brown. There are three main types of mantids in Eastern United States: the European mantid (Mantis religiosa), Carolina mantid (Stagmomantis carolina) and Chinese mantid (Tenodera aridifolia sinensis). Yes bats will get rid of the biting little creatures my friend in Detroit near the Roughe river has a bat house claims the mosquitoes cant be found Heres one of mine I had 7 sacs this May,I know the birds had a good time, but still wondering how many more there is moving about Thanks Swindyi:banana-wa Kale

I think they know that it's illegal to kill them and that's why they do what they want. hehe You've never had one taste you before? I had a green snake once and stuck a mantis and a grasshopper in the cage just to see what happened. I was surprised when the mantis stalked the grasshopper and ate it. Then the snake ate the mantis! lol Little food chain going on. My MIL tells of when my hubby and his brothers brought a cocoon in the house, put it in a jar with holes poked in the lid. They thought it was a butterfly or moth. Overnight it hatched and she said there were thousands of baby mantises all over inside her house! I'm surpised that poor woman survived her kids. |
