I juts bought all the things I needed for it now I want to ask a few questions about it is that do they need to be watered atleast twice a day? in the shade? and how big would it grow?....

i had a crash course in bonsai many years ago so take my info for what it's worth. i remember you have to root prune occasionally to keep them small, shape them using pruning and wire...not sure on the watering or light requirements. i would think it'd depend on the type of trees your using. somebody will come by w/better instructions, i'm sure.

i've always been curious about those and heard they require too much maintinence. I've also heard that they are pretty if you dont trim them as much

As mentioned above, yes you need to prune the roots occasionally. What you want to achieve is a lot of fibrous roots, but very little in the way of tap roots(the bigger, thicker roots).
I personally have found the best wire for shaping them is copper wire, as it's pretty flexible, but strong enough to hold in place once you have it the way you want it. Be careful not to wind it around the stems too tightly.
How bog it will grow is entirely up to you and what type of container you keep it in. The more pinching out and root pruning you do, the dwarfer it will be.
Bonsai do need considerably more watering than a regular potted plant because they are in such a shallow container. Exactly how much watering is difficult to say, just don't let the soil dry out totally. A lot of people will actually just sit the whole container in a bucket of water every so often to make sure they get a good drenching.
Shade or sun is going to depend on what type of plant it is, but most often some shade during the hot afternoon sun will be beneficial.
Hope that helps you some.

Hi!

I started Bonsai a few years ago and some websites really helped me. Do you know Bonsai Empire? (http://www.bonsaiempire.com)
I also bought a book by Craig Coussins, great!

Good luck

This thread is 3 years old. I'm pretty sure they are no longer looking for help, but thank you.
