My neighbors just had their lawn overseeded. A landscaper dumped some soil over their browning grass, raked it around, applied the seed, and left. Didn't water it, didn't cover it with straw or anything else. What are the chances of the seed surviving the dog days of summer?

Not a chance --- if he is licenced I would call the licencing board and let them know about it and then I would call him and get my money back or may him agree to come back in sept and do it over.

It was just some guy in a beat-up pick-up. As a matter of fact, I think I did see a license number on his truck.

Let your neighbors handle it.

Talked to my neighbor last night. We have our ongoing "lawn wars" chats, both being new to gardening, and he told me the landscaper guaranteed the seed. The reason he gave for guaranteeing the seed is that he overseeded a lawn 8 days ago and it came up nicely. Well, the weather was in the low 70s last week and it will be in the mid-80s this week. I overseeded a few spots in June and it was doing well until we got some high temps. It died instantly. I think if grass seed germinates and is allowed to go dry at all, the seed dies. Grass seed is cheap, so the landscaper doesn't have much to lose with his guarantee. My neighbor has been pouring water on it so we'll see what happens.
