Who has/had Them! and how do I rid my veggies from them and who knows what they like to eat So tell me what do they like to eat Im missing male flower center of my (lets just call it) a veggie vine. This just may answer all my mysteries for this season thus farVarious veggie seedlings were stolen! I was blaming the birds I can sometimes smell the skunk from a distance but tonight .... We, Fynalee and I were just taking time out to enjoy the cool air by the veggie beds and who walked up to us but 3 0r 4 BIG SKUNKS!!..It was a shock to behold!*LOL My dog looks at me because she doesnt know what they are and was wondering if they were new play friends *LOL I yelled pfui ! She showed no temper or even barked*LOL (what a mushhhhhh pie) looked at me and went behind me and waited for another command .... I could only see fluffy white fur so I just kicked a few empty buckets at them to shoo them so we can get to the only way out. They walked slowwwwwwwwwwYYY , I told the dog to get 'em and she jumped to them to play!!!!!!!! I then sent her in because that second I saw they were skunks! No way she was going to batttle with 3 or 4 large skunks! Lord knows I tried to get a pic must have taken 20+ shots in the dark then I ran and got the lights out but then they hid where I was not going....the butterflygarden and that is closed off by vines on 2 sides and a fence on the other and them in the last side*LOL I will say of what I did see, they were very beautiful critters! Wish I would have gotten a pic, Lord knows I tried....Hubby couldnt help was too interested in watching the Detroit Tigers 10 inning grrrr LOL hehehe..Anytips on ridding my gardens will be ever so helpful. Thats the story of my new critters...Rabbits are next *LOL finally grew tons of lettuce *LOLKale ![]()

Alright! The Tigers won eh?!? Cool ... oh wait, that's not what I meant. ;-) All I know about skunks is that my cat used to follow our 'hood skunk around and wait for him to root out the mouse nests... and then help out, with the mice that is. Now, if there was a way to turn them onto your neighbor .... hummmmm, now that would be cool. |

Need to close up that space between the fences! Do skunks climb wooden fences? If they dont they had to go into her front fence and walk all around her garage and pool to get to the part they came from. Interesting 3 or 4 skunks walking the paved roads at night. Wonder where they came from and why they were attracted to my yard, this is the first year they invaded me, we had opossums from Australia (*lol) and racoons breed in my garage, every year a different visitor... Only thing different I have this year is those vine (squash ).The (squash) flowers were being taken off and eaten at the center only, then they came back and took the whole flower they had left on the ground for me to see, very interesting though. Those skunk were not afraid of my dog they wanted to hang out and pick veggies together,Fynalee likes veggies too *lol I knew she'd be useless in the attack mode *lol Just too friendly:banana-wa Yeah.. Tigers have been making records.. He's excited, Good for them *LOL about time they do something interesting. Lets see if they make the series.... Red Wings do Wonderful till play offs but... then go play golf Unbelievable! *lol Dont know why they do that...Do skunks eat mice ot just play with them... Kale

I think skunks go after grubs Kale and also have been known to get into people's garbage here. Maybe one of your neighbours has left garbage outside that has attracted them. I would fix the hole in the fence as they don't climb as far as I know. |

We got em.....Skunks are scavengerss... eat whatever presents itsellf. Grubs are a favorite.... I have seen heavily infested lawns litterally pealed back by em to get at em. A fireman friend of mine who takes care of a rich blokes place on his days off, once came into my office white as a sheet. "You gotta come see this.... now.... man the ol man is gonna go off on me" So we get into my truck and drive up to the estate type place he takes care of. We get out and the lawn is litterally ripped to shreds.... I look at him and simply say "Skunks". 'What?..... Skunks?.... he ain't never gonna believe me.... man I'm in big trouble.... he'll think I screwed it up mowing or something" "Oh comeon- he can't hold you responsible for some thing you didn't do" "Oh yes he can... and he will" "Just tell him yopu checked it out and found out it was skunks... tell him to call me." We poked around a bit and found a couple of Jap beetle grubs under some undisturbed portions. I explained that we could pull up the sod so easy because the grubs had been feeding on the roots. We got back in the truck and drove back down to my office... as he got into his truck, Bill was still mighty skeptical... not about grubs or skunks.... just about whether his boss wouldn't believe him. |

sashweezy, Dont know how Id have grubs... No lawn I tilled and grubs have a long germ cycle before they are actually there eating your grass roots..hummm do grubs eat any roots??I did have those Japanese beetles got rid of a plant that I thought was attracting them and havent seen any since, not sure if thier life cycle went over or ridding the plant got rid of them..I have found 2 outer layers from those yukky ikky horrible bugs... came out of my skin for a sec *lol Maybe the skunks just wanted some veggies to chew on, you know take a tour about the nieghborhood and see who is veggie gardening and will supply thier food for the season*lolHummm garbage......I had blended eggshells in my blender and rain got in it and boy did it smell, didnt know what to do with it; I wanted to put it to the side for a quick fix if needed but I had to get it out of my blender ...just put it into a bed that wasnt being used..they were headed right there! Actually 1 or 2 were sniffing there What noses! I burried it a several inches, I didnt smell it and the dog didnt sniff there when passing ...hummm..I bet that is what did it ... Anyway..here is 1 pic out of the 20 I took... My camera does complete darkness shots. They hid behind the bush and vine which may go today. Kale

OH yes.... skunks are great at digging up nests of yellow jackets and bumbly bees in the ground. They feast on the larvae cones and their very thick fur protects them from the bees. |

Good pic Kale! Maybe next time put the eggshell concoction down the loo and flush. I have a friend that puts eggshells into a mason jar and fills it up with water, leaves it until it stinks and waters her inside plants with it. I'm not that brave though.
