I got the best sunflowers I've ever grown this year... Every one of them is nine to ten feet tall... The birds are going to love this... Problem is, so will the squirrels, but that's okay... They have to eat too... You can see from the size of my lawn barn how high they are... (The red barn to the left, not the big barn garage behind) Attachments: ![]() |

Dogged if I know... Just a packet I picked up at Wal*Mart or somewhere... Actually I just got them for the grandkids... You know, something easy that grows fast and big... I'll look through my seed basket tomroow and see if I still have the package and let you know... |

I almost hate to expose you all to this much "ugly", but to get better perspective, here is a picture of me today with them... I'm a big guy over six feet tall and 260 pounds... Attachments: ![]() |

Wow I'm sure the grandkids are enjoying them. Mine always do. I was at the fair today and they were checking in some mighty fine looking sunflowers. I'll have to go out tomorrow and see the final results. |

Here is one I took yesterday of our eldest son-in-law and his daughter... She is one of the two who planted them... Attachments: ![]() |

Oh the birds are gonna love your family for this. I don't even buy sunflower seeds to plant anymore. The neighbourhood chipmunks plant birdseed in any soft soil they can find and they grow better than anything else I've ever tried. I have a whole bedful on the verge of blooming now.... and I never planted them! If I DO plant sunflowers, I just grab handfuls of birdseed from the bin and plant that. It's what the birds are eating anyway and I've gotten some great results over the years. |

I dug through my seed basket and found the packet... They are Burpee Mammoth Sunflowers... The package indicates 12 feet in optimum conditions... Mine are every bit of ten feet, but once they start getting heavy with seed, of course they will bow over... Attachments: ![]() ![]() |

Those are so pretty. My dad loved growing the big ones in his garden. Someone at a pet store where I got my first cockatiel said that birds get addicted to sunflower seeds easily and that's why they go nuts over them. He recommended I didn't give my tame bird those because they get so they won't eat other seed. The bird I have now seems to eat everything though. |
