I planted a yellow blooming trumpet vine three years ago. The vine is
is doing well; however, has not had any blooms. Any suggestions?

My regular red/orange one has not bloomed either. My mother lives next door and hers has not bloomed either. This is year 3 for them and no signs of blooms. I think it takes a while. I could be wrong though. I look forward to hearing other responses.

I have an orange/red vine planted 10 years ago less than 15 feet from the
yellow. It's been blooming since year one.

Hey Roger,
Welcome to Garden Guides!
Where are you located? Is it time in your region for blooming? Typically they like an acid soil highly organic and a little on the damp side. I'll check back to see if we can figure something out

I was told, although I have yet to find info to back this up--that Trumpet Vines need some vigilant pruning in order to encourage blooming. Mine is vigorous in the foliage department, but after 3 summers, I have no blooms either. I'll be watching this thread with interest!!!

Mine took about 4 years to bloom from the time I planted it. Last year was it's first time. In the fall, I pruned it back, now this year... no blooms

I live in southern Ohio. I have pruned the vine back each autumn. I will water
and add acidic supplement.

My son planted a small stick with 3-4 root hairs on it 9 years ago and the next year it had 6 blooms. It's been trying to take over the world ever since. I prune the **%%&##!!! out of it every fall in self defense.
Most years it blooms well, but every now and then it sort of fizzles out. Two years ago It got so top heavy large sections of it fell over and broke off after just a few blooms appeared. It looks more like a tree with a canopy 10 ft high and a large central trunk with 4 side trunks growing on a split-rail fence with a liner. Suckers sprout up all over the place and I can't keep up with them. But...when the hummers visit it's worth all the aggravation. I haven't had time this summer to thin it out at all or tie it to the fence for extra support, so I am hoping for the best. It's been blooming for at least 3 weeks and looks OK.
I don't do anything to it. It was planted in unamended clay soil in a small cleared spot surrounded by grass and the next year we put in a perennial bed along the fence, but I don't fertilize it and rarely water it, unless we are in a major drought. I think it just thrives on neglect.

Hey, a trumpet vine thread! Cool... and no, it's not too tacky to tie silk blooms to the vines Roger!

My "trumpet" story is this ... planted two vines in an oak barrel along my fence with a trellis etc. ... figured maybe if we keep the roots controlled then maybe it wouldn't take over the world. ;-) Started off real nice, good growth and then some huge bloom bulbs began to develop... was so excited.

But alas, my friendly neighborhood squirrel got to them before the bloom... soooo bummed. And we're not talking one or two blooms... huge bud cluster of 5 or 6, would have been too nice! Now, for the next round of blooms, pepper spray in hand for sure and pellet gun crosshairs on the squirrels!

Went out today to water and yell at vine and there they were , four buds.
Not in bloom yet, but so much promise. Thanks for the responses. I am so happy.
