this system is really cool - keep up the good work - does anybody else know about this - how would you set this up in your backyard?

Not too difficult once you get the basics down. Like anything else, there is always a learning curve you must go through.
Its a little more involved when you try to build the system yourself. There's alot of tinkering with flowrates, and also timing to consider. Store-bought systems are already set. so you can just throw in the plants and start growing.

intresting, can you asume/say that hydro gives better plant/veggie growth than soil?

nawh, I wouldnt say better(though some may disagree) but defiantly way faster. It rocks, I can see huge changes every day. I think thats why I love it so much. Seems stuff is changing right before your eyes

having COMPLETE control over just about every aspect is a nice part too! Calibrating everything to perfection, then watching perfection develope, is awsome!

Tbug, do you notice any difference in taste between soil grown and hydroponically grown produce? i had a hydroponic tomato once and i thought it had an odd taste...not bad, just different. BUT...it could've been my imagination, too.

Well, there are too many factors to consider to blame hydroponics alone. But age of the plant is probably an an important one. since plants grow almost twice as fast in hydro, maturity is not the same.
Also there are some remedies that you can control. One is to flush the system with a flushing agent several days before harvesting. this alows the plant to use up the exsess nutes that could alter taste. also, you can do Hydro-organic, using only organic nutrients. the only diff is that organic is not absorbed as fast. But still very efficent.
