I wonder if anyone else grows veggies in their front yard. I do. My Wife rolls her eyes at me for it too. She says it's not supposed to be there just in the backyard. I alway reply "What's the problem, my flowers turn to fruit, ornamental type things on lil trees then we can eat them when they ripen." I guess what I need to know is there some type of Gardeners Etiquette or something that I am not following. Are my neighbors talking or laughing about me behind my back. Surely I won't have to dig my veggies up and transplant them to the backyard. OMG my dark green broccoli mixed with marigolds I wont have to pull them too....... Doug: |

Mine are sorta in the front yard, but off to the far side at the same time. Ahh who cares if they are talking...tell wifey you are eccentric and don't want to be like everyone else LOL. |

You plant vegetables where they get the most sun; soil and water can be modified, but not sun. There are lots of people who would disagree with you; they use clothes dryers in Florida. Still, you have to keep the front yard pretty; straight rows, neat chicken wire, and a nice grass border around the vegetable garden. I don't grow vegetables in my front yard because I've always wanted a front yard full of roses. |

My bird bath garden is in the center of the front yard and this year I've planted Bright Lights swiss chard in it along with curley parsley and tai peppers. |

Your neighbors won't be snickering behind your back when you start harvesting your bounty. And when you offer your excess to them .I have neatly arranged plants in plastic buckets on my front yard right now.Do I care what the neighbors think?Naaa, not really :dancing t |

I've got veggies in the side yards that can be seen from the road, but my main veggie garden is on one side of the yard. Mostly because of convience and trying to keep as much of the veggies near one location for watering and maintenance purposes. I have planted veggies right in with the flowers before and didn't give a hoot what anyone else said much less thought. I figured its my property, I'm doing the work and thats all that mattered to me. Once you are successful who knows u may start a trend in the neighorhood and others will follow your lead. I've seen plenty folks have veggies mixed in with the ornimentals. trudy |

I think wherever you put them is ok..LOL but if in the front yard you want it neat looking, not weedy and of course you might have to watch the neighbors sneak over for a taste since it is so tempting?? LOL I have a few veggies in my perennial beds as well as veggie garden.. wherever it is good for the plant. You are the garden designer.. design how ever you want to..

I have them in pots in my front yard because I haven't got a back yard, just about 18" between me and the house behind me! And my front yard is pretty literally a yard: about 36" square with a little bit of ground around where I park the car. My neighbors think it's great, but the houses on my block face east, so in order to get sun we have all our plants in front! (Tell your wife she should be glad you're not gardening in the street; a lot of people here put their containers on the curb in front of their wall!) Cantate in Tokyo:carrot::cucumber::evilB: |
