I was camping over the weekend and discovered a magnificent bog filled with the neatest plants! The best of all was the carnivorous Purple Pitcher Plants! :tomatodan I had never seen them before in person, and would LOVE to grow one of my own! I will post some pics as soon as I have them developed... Has anyone ever tried to plant a bog garden? Small, large? Did it turn out? Do you have pictures? Where did you get the plants? Are they very expensive? Any advice? Thanks!!! |

There is a natural peat bog near my home. There are a wide selection of plants not commonly seen. And very unusual too. Not sure if you can easily buy those types of plants. I am sure you can just never seen them. I have a swamp garden that has lots of lilies and what most people cal wweds. I just capitalized on the natural stuff already in the area. Hmmm would be interested to see what you could do with a bog garden. Let me know what you find. If I have time I'll hunt around and get back to you. |

We are seriously considering a bog bit at the end of our garden as it is more child friendly than an ordinary pond. That way we can still attract frogs, newts and other wildlife. I would be interested to know of anything you discover and of course how you are getting on with it. If yours turns out ok then that might just sway us to do it now rather than later. |

Some of the plants are pricey because they have been depleted in their natural habitats. Some plants I have seen growing wild in the wetland are blue flag iris, yellow flag iris, lady's slipper orchid, jacob's ladder, marsh marigolds, lowbush blueberry, skunk cabbage, joe-pye weed, ferns, sedges, grasses etc |
