This "stuff" is like angle hair pasta (i.e. long and stringy), and has only one small leaf on the end (the end that floats on the water) -- but it's crowding out my lily plants.

I don't know if this stuff is "good" stuff or "bad" stuff ...

Hope the pictures come out so you can help identify what this is for me.

See it there, floating all over the top of the water??

And when I reach in a pull some out, you can see just how long it is. The pond snails love to hide inside it.

I don't remember this stuff being in the water during the winter, but as the spring warms up, it shows up and pretty soon it may cover ALL the water.

I don't know if it's crowding out the water lily plants or not.

Yup, Duckweed.
May be the worlds smallest flowering plant.
Tiny yellow flowers.

Oh Trudy, that site is awesome! Thank you!!!
How did you know? Do you (Trudy and Caz) have it too?

So, here's my next question (naturally)...
from this site it says it's a food for "common carp". Does that mean it's ok for my GOLDFISH?? [I'm thinking they are in the carp family]

It's just fine for your goldfish.

I thought I remembered Duck weed being a problem and clogging up something. I searched and didn't find anything. Does anybody remember anything about that. I thought of it the minute I saw the name. ?????????

I don't remember anything about it clogging anything, but suppose it could. Perhaps a pump motor, or fan? Don't know. I don't have my pond active right now. A blue heron came in an ate all my fish and I just haven't gotten around to it. Plus it needs a new pump, I got a little work to do before I restock it. Big time clean up! Anyway I see it in the marshes here and along the roadsides at times where water has been standing awhile. I've never had it in my pond though, I remember finding it fascinating at some point and it just stuck in my mind. Had forgotten about it until your post. trudy
