Hello, I have purple Phlox that come up every year and do very well untill about August when the mildew hit them. I did read that it helps to not get them wet but, frankly, that is a bit hard to do! I does rain down!! Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Try this homemade remedy for powdery mildew...Either/or a teaspoon of baking soda in 1 quart of water, with a couple of drops of a light oil (such as corn, cannola, peanut), or a 50/50 mixture of fat free milk and water stops PM in a short time when it appears on my lilacs. No real reason to remove the leaves. |

Dust with powdered garden sulphur or copper. There are also several good, effective fungicides out there. |

Some of my Phlox will get the mildew also. There are some varieties that are more apt to get powdery mildew. It's not just the rain or water on them, It also has to do with humidity and day/night temps. When there is a temp difference of 20 degrees between day and night, mildew kicks in more rapidly. You need to treat for fungus weeks before you see it. Because the plants are already mature, it wont harm them, just looks ugly. Good air circulation is important too. Phlox should be divided every 3-4 yrs. |
