I'm still trying to get my bearings on the diagram and pics. I think I figured it out! You're showing the front of the house where I thought it was front and side. So the designer is recommending a low evergreen hedge all along the front. I don't know the shrubs you mentioned, but I suspect they need trimming to window height or they're 3-4 ft. shrubs. |

I live in zone 5 in the suburbs of Detroit. I actually had 3 designs done http://www.byegonebooks.com/ebay/design1.JPG http://www.byegonebooks.com/ebay/design2.JPG but they are not much different. Two of the designers also said that shrubs should be grouped in 3's or 5's. |

I see. They're trying to put the shrubs in the recessed 14 foot section to fill in that corner. That makes sense, but I'd stick with 3 shrubs--5 seems crowded. They'll act as a backdrop for the other shrubs and perennials that are planted near the front door. I don't think I'd continue the same shrub along the front of the bumbed-out section. I see there's a pear tree planned with two possible locations, either in front of the window or on the corner. Which location do you prefer for the tree? |

The pear tree is going by the corner of the house. I want something else by the porch but I'm not sure. I was thinking a rose of sharon tree and then put a boulder underneath with some flowers. I really don't want the window being blocked and I don't want tree limbs hanging over the walkway to the house. |

Treeman I just saw the clethra in the local nursery paper. I like it. I like weigelas too. I like stuff where you can shape it. I don't like stuff like euonymous where it grows all over and always fight to control it. |
