What variety of snapdragons did you get Sweetle? Some branch out nicely but others you have to pinch out the top centre to encourage them to bush out.

Sweetle, I meant that the sweet potato vine would complement the burgundy of the other planter, and it would look nice with dark blue as well.

As I mentioned in RC, I found a wrought iron plant hanger in my garage that opened up the possibilities of another hanging planter, so I seized the day! I realized I could satisfy my desire for some lobelia in a new hanging basket, so I got blue, white, and purple lobelia and lavender and white osteospermum at Home Depot.

I found a dwarf blue-lily-of-the-nile plant for $5 that I got for the terracotta planter. I thought it was a good choice for a few reasons--it gives height to the pot (flower stalks are 30 in.), the color and price were right, Rick always points them out on walks (of course he has no recollection of that now), and it can be planted in the garden in fall and will make a nice focal point.

Now I can do a few smaller pots for my deck steps. I'm really having fun with the containers! It's better than gardening!

Here's the planter box I planted last week. In the front are single burgundy petunias and nemesia. In the back are ruffled burgundy petunias that get taller than the front petunias. Then I have snapdragons in the middle for height and Creeping Jenny on the sides and the front, which will spill right down the front of the planter like an overflowing bottle of lime-green Mountain Dew on a just-washed shirt. How's that for a metaphor?
