My daughter planted a dried bean and it is turning into a cute little bean plant. It was your basic red bean. We never grew anything but green beans in the past. Can I grow this in a container? Will we get more beans?

That's Caz for you, always in there with lots of great information. That's why I call him and "Amusing Nut".

I don't see why you couldn't. It's a great project for your daughter to undertake. Let us know how it progresses. One of my kids grew a little orange tree from a pip when he was young. He planted a few in one of my houseplants. He still loves to grow things.

Ok.. Beans R beans... Is it an ornamnetal bean plant or an eatable bean plant ? Seems like a bean seed is a bean seed.. You may not get more plants from this seed / plant, but maybe from it's seed's U'll get plenty to re-plant next yr..
What's the differance from a bean plant/ pole or bush or red ?? or scarlet runner beans... One plant is one seed. My guess is that from this one plant U should get many / from it's seeds ...

HI Kat!! Aare ye talking about the "red 'bean" that is dried and ye cook?? I've grown those fer projects before. They are fun! WE used to plant about 4 in a Qt jar. filled with wet paper towels. The bean is put against the glass and ye get to watch it sprout and grow. If it's put in a large enough container it should grow bloom and have a few bean pods. Then ye could plant those and watch them grow. A great thing fer kids and those of us who never really grew up too. What is it growing in now??
GOOD LUCK!!

Yep Herby, it probably came from the supermarket.

When I was a kid, we did the sprouting of lentils in wet cotton balls LOL

I just sprouted my pole beans that way. A great gardener client of mine told me to do it that way. They just went in the pot, pot of soil that is...
