My yard is absolutely infested with lily-of-the-valley. I would actually like this plant in contained areas if it would behave. But it's totally unmanageable, to the point that it has even jumped wide concrete dividers like sidewalks.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of it? So far I've been just digging it up, but that seems a bit aggressive, and often ends up damaging the soil system or root structures of other nearby plants. Would something like Roundup work?? I'm really desperate for ideas.

Thanks for any suggestions.

HI!! :banana-wa Jus did a quick search and they seem to grow in any condition and soil. The only suggestion I saw was to dig um up, pot um up and give them away to friends! Good Luck and welcome to the Forum!!

That's what I was afraid of. I'd sooner resort to napalm than more digging at this point...

I know what ye mean. Round up is too easy to get on the surrounding plants. My oldest son proved that. He was banned from using it for life! LOL LOL :animorang

That's how I got mine! After reading this, I'm digging them up right after they finish blooming!

Growing them in pots and nipping the bloom's when spent seem's to be the way to go. The blooms to seeds part is poisonous, but doesn't seem to have been a problem.

Does that mean you think it might work?? There are some that are relatively isolated, so I'm tempted to make a go at it. I'm pretty sure I've tried before with no luck, though.

roundup is death to anything that grows......the nice thing about it is that once you've cleared the area, you can re-plant what you want within days (read label to be sure).

What about smothering them? Like landscaping fabric?
