I found a wonderful garden tool. It is called a "Garden Claw". It has an extra long handle, about 38-45 inches long, and it does a wonderful job of turning hard soil, and cultivating. I had seen it on TV for about a year and questioned its use, but then I injured my back! Now I use this garden tool all of the time. I even use it to turn the soil in my large flower pots. This is a great tool, and it only cost me $15.00!:banana-wa |

I used one at my sisters house last year , I saw it in the garage and thought yeah right --then after digging with a shovel for awhile I grabbed it and I could not believe how easy it was to turn the soil with it , I could have kicked myself in the butt for not trying it sooner. Thanks for reminding me as I need to buy one for my garden. swindyi |

I've had one for years. I use it to break up compacted soil and dig up weeds in between plants in the summer : ) |

I've used the garden claw a lot too....also got another long handled tool with three curved prongs on it that is incredible for loosening up the soil around plants (Lee Valley) - and also use a mining pic or it is also called a Pelican Pick.....which is good for digging into compacted "never been used before" soil. Where would we be without our favourite tools to make the job easier! |

I actually looked for one of those last year but didn't find one. I'll have to look again, I guess. Jules, where did you purchase yours? |

My dad has one to. My brother and sister-in-law gave him one about 5 years ago and he just loves it. He is 81 yrs old and still playing in his little garden. He always used a shovel but now loves his little toy. Saves his back and hips. He is 6' 6" so the claw is great for him. I want one too.:banana-wa |

Jules, where did you purchase yours?Sash - do you mean the Pelican Pick? If so - there is a store locally that has them and actually I am going to call them today to get a price for my son who wants one - will ask if they ship and let you know the price as well. Will get back to you |

Jules, where did you purchase yours?Sash - I just got the Pelican Pick/miners Pick that I ordered for my son (and a new one for myself as I broke the point off my old one, although it is still good to use!). We got it from Ackland Grangier in Dartmouth - their address is 60 Raddall Avenue, Dartmouth, NS B3B 1T2 - phone number is 902-468-9396 It is a made in Canada product and has a stamp on it "Garant" which is likely the company, but not sure. Not sure if Ackland Grangier is a national company, but if not, I am certain if you called them in Dartmouth they could direct you to an Ontario distributor or even order it and send to you. They are only $23 so well worth it! I would not survive out in my yard without it! Here is a picture of it in case you need to show a supplier what exactly you are looking for - good luck! |
