Hello, my soil is awful by the way. I had to buy all the soil for my planned raised beds and containers. That was $150! But I don't how I am going to start a lawn! A load of topsoil here is $200 a truck load. There's not much to a truck load. I'm wondering if it would be best to buy $200 worth of bagged soil to start withand mix it in with what I have loosened up where I want the lawn. Maybe do an area per year. The soil here is very dry almost sandy. Anyways where should I even start? Thanks. |

Hello! [color=orangered]I think your idea of getting at least one truckload of soil would help you Try to spread it out as thin as possible and add as much compost/manure with it then rototill it all together. Maybe that will help with reducing the ratio of sand to soil. I do believe in doing a small patch at a time. Maybe it'll save you money in the long run because you will be able to see what worked and what didn't. Plus in each patch you can try a different grass seed to see if that is good for that climate and amount of sunshine. Since you are in Canada, I don't know if you have the same type of advice available from the local agricultural university like we have in the USA. We can always ask our county extension for soil testing and other advice. Maybe there is something similar in your area? Good luck and hope it works out for you.] |
