I've got a TroyBuilt rototiller, a "Pony" this thing will just not die! I've had it for nine years. It's like that "Energizer Bunny", keeps tilling & tilling. Anybody else had good luck with a tiller? Paul zone3 |

I've given up on them...they run away with me, and bring up a lot of old weed seeds to resprout...........I feel like I am trying to run a jackhammer!....not good for my spine either..........I wonder if it leaves a layer of hardpan at the depth its always used? The clay and rock in MO needs a lot of help...........You lead a charmed life Paul..good luck.... |

I picked up a Troy built pony a couple of years ago.... before MTD got their greedy hands on them. Now their turning out that counter rotating tines junk. Ok for breaking new sod, but other wise pretty much worthless. Leave it to the 800 lb gorilla to take good brand names and cheapen them to crapola... they've done it time and again.. I'll never buy a Troybuilt they make nowadays. |

Didn't know about the Troybuilt takeover! Sad to hear it. So many things have gone that way. It's like the "Big Box Stores", (Home Depot) Most everything they sell is that way. Even the name brand stuff has there own line of cheapened goods they sell exclusively to HomeDepot. I don't shop these types of places anymore. Even a thing like plywood! Now you'd think, what could they possibly do to make plywood inferior. They've done it! Crappy glue! I could go on & on, but take my word for it, BUYER BEWARE! |

I had an old Craftsman tiller that was my dad's and I sold it cheap at my yard sale last year. My husband isn't into gardening and it was taking up space in the garage. It was too awkward for me to use although I did once. It walked me around the yard the first time I tried to use it. There were a couple things wrong with it when I parted with it, but nothing that couldn't be fixed. I know what you mean by the cheapness of the equipment. We searched for a tractor mostly for lawn mowing and I refused to get anything but a garden tractor. I don't believe in getting disposable equipment like that. The 1980(approx) Wheel Horse still runs like a champ, but the mower deck couldn't hold another weld so we had to get something else. I still use the 8 hp WH for other stuff though. The husband likes the Cub because it doesn't take as long to mow and he has more time on the Harley then. |

Does John Deere make rototillers? I don't think they do, but geez, they make everything else. Good quality, too.... |

What about the Mantis tiller I see advertised - has anyone had any experience, good or bad with them? |

I love my mantis, i can handle it, my parents have a big craftsman one and it's too big for me to use. |

I only have 3 relatively small raised beds (the largest being a 4' x 8') so I use the add on Cultivator/Tiller for my weed trimmer. Works good for me. Here is a link to it, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007MGCT4/104 -3353982-5110354?v=glance&n=228013 |
