I noticed today that some of my sprouts are leaning over and real weak looking. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? I have been trying to lift them up but they fall back over by the next time I check on them. I water them regularly and have never let them dry out. I also have my light really close to them about 2" or so. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Cindy

Maybe they are getting rootbound?

When a plant gets to big for where it is currently planted. The roots will get all tangled up, have nowhere to go etc.

Cindy, judging from the pic you posted of your sprouts on the 16th they aren't root bound. it's way too soon for that. are they getting any ventilation? are they too hot? are you keeping them moist, not soaked? sprouts can get leggy and weak stemmed really fast. that's why it's recommended to have your light source very close and positioned directly over the peat pots even before the seeds germinate. the only other thing that comes to mind (and i've run into this myself), are your lights new? florescents will weaken over time and not put out adequate light for the sprouts.

I am keeping them pretty moist and I dont believe I am soaking them. The peat pot looks a little dried out so many not enough water? I will try putting a fan on too for some ventilation. I dont believe they are getting enough air circulation as my grow room is in my basement. I will try that! Oh, and my lights are new so hopefully that isnt the problem! Thanks for the advise. I'll let ya know how they are doing. :-)

I was just down examining the sprouts and guess what? the roots are growing out the bottoms! So is it time to move to bigger pots? If so, how much bigger and do I use regular soil? Thanks for your help again !!

Lady, I put mine (pellets and all) in those big plastic solo cups with potting soil. I put 2 plants per cup. The roots were popping out the bottom a little too much for my liking and getting twisted. We must have planted the same day!

Here's a picture of a few of mine. 2 are Squash and the others are cucumbers.
