I bought borage seeds and gave them to a friend because they were supposed to be a companion plant to tomatoes. My friend planted them and told me that they didn't help the tomatoes and became very invasive. I hope you have better luck.

Hi and Welcome to GG Beebalm! Sit right down and relax, and join right in. We don't bite, but can be rather silly at times. We're not all crazy but it sure helps. As for the borage. I've grown it allot over the years. It's great for attracting bees for pollination (and if you have anybody beekeeping within range). And its tasty in salads (young leaves)......or in teas....and the flowers are beautiful if they're "sugared" for petit fours and other desserts. And I have found them somewhat beneficial as a companion plant.....but not as good as some others. They can be invasive, but depends on whether you allow the flowers to mature or pick them beforehand. They don't seem to have deep root systems in my experience, so they are easy to yank out if they end up in a place you don't want them. Good luck. |

Thanks for the welcome and info. I think I'll limit the borage to containers. A little info about me. I moved to Kentucky about six months ago from upstate NY. We bought a place about four months ago with 8 acres, barn and a pond. We've been planning a veggie garden and a sizeable herb garden and are itching to get out there and get it started. |
