Christmas Cacti do not like to be moved esp around bloom time. They will drop their buds in a heart beat. Although they are supposed to bloom at Xmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, they jus seem to bloom when ever they feel like I have a white with hot pink center blooming now. It's so pretty. They are well worth it when they bloom. We have a few old threads with lots of info on them. Let me see if I can find them fer ye. :animorang

Tempermental things they are - My grandmother alway told me that you have to treat them like you would a newborn. It likes to be secure, warm but not too hot or cold, damp but not a wet diaper, and a lot of cooing. Hers is over 25 years old and I swear she gets it to bloom on xmas eve every year. It took me 4 years to get mine to bloom at xmas. Keep trying and don't give up. The blooms are worth it.

So 4years ago, I got my mom's Christmas Cactus. It's huge, in a 16/18" pot. 2 1/2 years ago we moved in beg. Nov, as it was starting to form buds, and then we moved again NewYears... Where it lost all it's 1/2formed buds. I think the 1st move stinted their growth. But then it bloomed in April. Then last year it bloomed just after the beg. of May, but again we'd moved it in Feb, then again in March to our new home, just as it began to bud. No buds @ Christmas. Today I watered it for the 1st time in 2 wks, and noticed it's got buds on it! So how come it's desided in the last 3 springs to bloom now instead of Christmas?? Has it changed it's personality to an Easter cacti? I thougth the Easter one had completely different shaped leaf? I personally don't totaly care when it blooms (truth be told I wouldn't have it if it wasn't for the fact my mom loved the thing and couldn't take it with her when she moved) It's just got me confused!!! Thanx for any ideas, or info throw out! |

I too have a Christmas Cactus. Mine only blooms around Thanksgiving and then seems to be dormant. I don't move it from the garden window that it seems to like. I only water it about once a month. I never water it while it blooms the flowers due to they will drop the flowers very fast. They dont like to be messed with. |

Christmas Cacti need a sm. pot. If ye put them in a big one theyspend their time growin' roots instead of blooming. Finding a sweet spot for them is important. Once ye do don't move um!!! |

I did have it in frount of the computer desk "L" when we first moved here last year. But Sierra actually learnt to pull herself to standing using the stand, and when she got stronger she tipped it over a few times b4 I moved it to the dining room corner where she rarely goes. It didn't like that spot, so now that our computer is downstairs, the Christmas cactus is back in that corner and loving it. Which surprises me, b/c it's beside our frount door that faces N, and there is a heat register right there. Both of which are big fat NO NO's in placing these things!!! I looked up online some info, and printed out how to force them. So I'll let it do it's thing right now (there's over 40 tiny tiny buds I counted last night) and then in fall I'll force it to see if I can remind it, it's a Christmas Cactus, not an Easter! |

LOL Yer lucky it's fixin to bloom. Jus don't let it get dry or the buds will dry up and fall off Can ye post pictures when it blooms? I got a yellow one at Xmas and it was so pretty but it dropped most of it's blooms. I think I let it dry out. I need to get a little bit bigger small pot. .

LOL I will keep it in this pot, I really don't want it getting any bigger than it already is. It would be nice if it filled out and got longer. About 6years ago my mom went away and dad had to take care of it. Well he didn't water it, and he left it all summer in the "winter" home. (mom had to move it every summer b/c that window got too much sun in the summer) and most of the "1st" 2 sections fell off. I will for sure take a few picts when it blooms. Right now the buds are only about a couple cm they are just emerging! I get my film burnt to CD when I develop it (no digital here) but I'll post it for sure! I know my mom would love to see them! |

All the remaining buds dropped too.I love those flowers.I have kept it indoors as I live in an apartment. The temperature in Beijing is around 41 degrees( Fahrenheit).Does anyone know why? Is it too warm. I water them only when the soil is dry. Please help!!! |
