Are fertilizer spikes very effective? I've heard that some do not breakdown into the soil. I've always used spikes but am never certain they are really working. Also, what about using Preen instead of a spike? It contains fertilizer and also kills the weeds. I have never used Preen before so I don't know how effective it is on controlling weeds. |

Fertilizer spikes are good to use in spring and summer, not now. Preen is a pre emergent and will kill off weeds, flower seeds etc. as they germinate. If you want to use this, make sure it is as a pre emergent, not as a weed killer. Do you garden for birds? http://www.backyardbirdingtips.com/ Ron |
