I just recently acquired about a hundred or so bulbs of grape hyacinth from a neighbor. She dug them up just a few days ago and clipped the green foilage back to about an inch long. I am creating a new flower bed and would like to know how deep to plant the bulbs and if they will bloom next year or will I have to wait a year cause of foilage being clipped off. Any input is greatly appreciated. |

Thanks for the info. Yes i'm sure they had green foilage. My guess is either the foilage is the original from the beginning of the season and hadn't died off yet or it is recent new growth that survives over the winter with a blanket of insulated snow. Either way I sure do hope these wonderful flowers take off for me. |

Somebody tell me if I am wrong. Grape hyacinth are blue and small bulbs about crocus size. If thats the case they really don't have to be too deeply planted in my area. I plant them about 1 1/2 inches down, no more. I also plant them in clusters of 7+ with about 2 inches between. On their own they aren't showy. |

Yes sash --- they are small bulbs. The ones that I got range in size from a popcorn kernel to about the size of my thumb tip. I have read that they are either blue or purple in color. The only info that I couldn't find is how deep to plant the bulbs but thanks to you wonderful GG addicts (myself included) I shall plant them tomorrow and hopefully they will adapt and take root in their new home alongside my mini red tulips and daffodils. |
