Hi all, I have a couple things growing in my front yard, in an unkempt area where I want to extend my garden beds. I have to decide what to keep, what to move, and what to remove. The goals of my gardens are not just beauty, but also to provide habitat and food for insects and birds. These first pics are of a tree/shrub like plant that makes a fragrant flower in the spring and the red berries you see below in the fall. I wonder if the birds eat the berries, I would be more inclined to keep it. Attachments: ![]() ![]() |

Here is the 2nd plant - it is perennial with red berries also! I think it's shade loving, because there are several of these and the ones getting direct sun are getting burnt. Attachments: ![]() |

Your shrub is familiar but I can't place it- yet. The 2nd is Smilacina racemosa/False Solomon's Seal.It is a moisture loving shade plant. |

Thanks Kentucky Lady - that's just what it is! I thought it was shade-loving, it's going to have to move, because I'm turning the area where it is now into a sunny border! I hope it will transplant okay. |

I am reasonably sure your shrub is a Viburnum- just not sure on which yet. I believe we have this one with the smooth leaves at the greenhouse -when I go back in on Thursday,I will look. If I had a pic of the blooms, I could probably remember which one- I hate that- when you know something but your mind goes blank :o
