I had my backyard totally landscaped this past spring. At this point I have several monstrous Canna Lilles about 6 feet tall and still flowering. They are propagating at an alarming rate. Since I live in Zone C I probably will not have to dig them up for winter.....SO......how do I keep them under control? Can I cut them down somewhat or should I dig them up and lessen the rhizomes. Please help. Thanks |

I think I would dig them up. Devide them and replant but I do not know if that is necessary. We HAVE to dig ours so I am not sure how to handle them if you don't. If you do dig and devide them and have extras to get rid of, I would be willing to trade seeds for them. |

What is "Zone C"? I'm more familiar with the numbered zones. How tall are your cannas now? I assume they have also sent up multiple shoots. Take a photo and put it in so we can see. One person's definition of "propagating at an alarming rate" might be different from anothers, depending on the size/area of the bed in question. |

I live in zone 6-I never dig my canna up-they are 7-8 ft tall--really need to be thinned badly-don't bloom as they used too.Have blooms but not as big or pretty as they used to. I cut mine totally to the ground and then cover them with mulched leaves about 4" thick. Peggy |

Please help. Thanks Hello form Sacramento ...they do that here...my Canna Lilies are almost 7 feet tall and every other year I have to dig them up and divide them up...I don't think you will need to dig them up for the winter...just cut them back and cover them with aged grass clippings or straw ....maybe 6 inches or so...and you should be good to go...come late winter ...early spring you can take off part of the mulch and they wil grow like crazy |

I'm confused. Are these the Cannas in red, orange, yellow or Calla Lillies? Do you have a photo? |

Love, Cannas. I don't think Callas will get that big. Cannas will reproduce if they like where they are. Short of digging the new shoots in spring when they come up or dividing in the last of the season there will be no way to control them. Even if you have your bed edged they will "walk" under the edging to get out. So..... Like was suggested above , dig and trade. There are many people who love them , me for one. What colors do you have??? |

Please help. Thanks I never realized that Canna Lillies got that tall until I was with my sister in Alberta Canada and we went to a few green houses looking at plants. In the corner of one was about a dozen Cannas that were at least 7 ft. tall. I fell in love with them. I would love to have a rhizomes from yours if you are willing to ship them out. Let me know. Thanks. Tina
