two tomato plants today and my Lemon Creme Lantana. It was hard to decide whether to do the maters in pots or the flower bed. Decided to try the bed this year. I have one cherry tomato and one Celebrity which is for my hubby. Tomatoes have a hard life here in the south, one virus or another takes them out every year. They might produce some OK fruit but they just look really bad.
Also took out all the plants that have been wintering over inside the house. I know they will be much happier being exposed to some normal air and temps. Houses are not the best place for plants to live that are supposed to be outside. Our weather is supposed to be back to normal the next 10 days. But I will have to be vigilant with the tomatoes. They are the most tender especially since they are in the yard and not under the carport.
Finished cleaning the dining room today. Feel like I got most of the white silty dust off everything. Tomorrow I will do the living room and perhaps get my sunroom back in order. This is where the plants lived all winter and it is a mess. I have to rearrange the furniture there in order to bring plants indoors. For now I say I will not do as many cuttings or bring in so many plants this fall. I will not be doing as many seeds, I did not enjoy that experiment. Cudos to all of you that have the patience and perhaps a better space for growing seeds indoors. I want to remember to start winter seeds this coming fall/winter in the seed bed. That is more up my alley and what I really like to do.
The next outside project will be cleaning up the side bed to get ready for the White Garden. And I have some plants that need to be planted that I bought from friends that grow in their greenhouse each year. They do this to support their growing garden habit. They make a wonderful garden with many types of veggies, then when the fruit of their labors come in they sell them to anyone passing by their home. They have a sign they put out, a table with a scale to weigh the plants and a calculater. They have a nice little set up.
It has been a very good day, the squirrels have not dug up the new plantings I did a few days ago. Though I had to really look for my little root of the Yellow Butterfly Weed. Finally found it. They had dug around it and covered it up. Oops, I meant to put a plant marker on it. Will have to remember to do that tomorrow.
I found that my Astilbes are both coming up and look wonderful. The Hostas are looking great and the ferns I put out last year are beginning to come up as well. So far I am pleased with what is transpiring in my gardens. I may be able to do just what I intended with all my hard work last year. Enjoy my gardens, water, feed, weed, sit in my lounge chair and watch the birds, butterflys and hummers come flitting by.
More To Come Later
