Yesterday, Hubby and I were playing cards at the dinette table. The sun was shining brightly and we were enjoying looking out the window as we played. Suddenly, something swooped down and landed in the Cement Garden. It was a huge buzzard. He (or she, who can tell?) just walked around looking on the ground, checking things out. It just strolled as casual as could be. After about five minutes, I guess it didn't find anything worth dining on, and it flew away. You just don't realize how big those birds are until you see one on the ground. Hubby said that he didn't know what he was looking for, but he was glad that the buzzard didn't find him! Finally, I have something to blog about.

I went out yesterday, the first day of the year, to dump my collection of coffee grounds into the Cement Garden. I'm hoping to build up that area into more friable soil. I was shocked to see this little daffodil about ready to burst. I looked in all the other flower beds where I have daffodils and there are no signs of any of them. I had to snap a picture and I wrote this little haiku:
January cold
floral anachronism
one brave daffodil
Oh, what fun it is to discover "firsts" of the season.
Mission for today: Cook some comfort food. It's getting to look a lot like winter.
