still no rain
May 18, 2008 | 9:20 AM PST
I hung out my clothes this morning in hopes it would cause some rain. It is real dry here in central florida. I know my county is about to take water restrictions from 2 days a week down to once a week. This is scary, since I have so many new plantings. It will be great when they are established. I chose plants that need little water. I ordered 2 lilac chaste tree.s I am a bit nervous about them. They will be going in the front garden to help with shading. The pics are just right, so I am hoping for a good match at the site I have chosen.I also ordered a cry baby tree. This looks very interesting. It has beautiful flowers. I am off to get in the hot tub to ease them old bones!!

I bought a Frangipani tree today for $4.00 from a very nice retire d gentleman that sells his cuttings in his front yard. He says it will be a snap. I am sure he is right!! The flowers are used to make leis. It looks like a huge branch with a few leaves on it. But I am hopeful and will no doubt check it every morning for some new growth. We need rain badly what with all my new plaings. 5% chance for tomorrow. My fingers and toes are crossed .
Battling the heat already
May 2, 2008 | 6:51 AM PST
My new lawn-less front yard is already reacting to the hot direct sun in the afternoon. Everything recovers after a good deep watering but I am forever trying to conserve water use. I know that some plantings will not make it, even after 3 months of research. I also know that once some get established it will get better. My veggie garden is really unhappy in the sun. I wish I knew how screening material over it would work. Any one ever do that?
