Hello everyone, I haven't been here for a few weeks. Nothing was going on in the garden except weeds.
I have new flowers on now, Asiatic lillies and bee balm. So pretty. The bee balm is from my GG friend and the lillies are from Walmart clearance last year for a dollar a piece.. I have white, pink, red and burnt orange.
Also, my balloon flower is ready to bloom. Purple is my favorite color.
I will download the bee balm pictures later. Pink and red...
I have been out all week digging, weeding, planting, watering, mulching and having fun. I received quite a few plants from a GG friend last weekend. I have been sorting thru trying to remember which ones are best in part sun and which ones want full sun and especially which ones like shade. I think I have it figured out. I took before and after pictures. The other things I have been doing is trying to remember all of the names..I seem to have forgotten most of them. You will see them in the pictures. Maybe my GG friend that gave them to me can remind me so I can mark them in the garden.
I want to make cute little markers that I can do with my daughter. She needs a new craft for this weekend. I saw the cutest rustic markers made out of sticks. I will have to look for that website again, forgot where I saw them.
A few I remember: Forget-me-not's, hostas, iris's, fern, a lot of ground cover, mint and Day lilly's to name a few.
The front bed is almost finished. I have to finish mulching. I decided to put newspaper under the mulch so the weeds don't have a chance. Most of the planting is done except for the new bushes my husband went to pick up this morning for the front of the house. I had a choice between a rose bush or a butterfly bush. I chose the butterfly bush (tricolored: blue, white, purple). I have a rose bush and one is enough for now....Would rather see butterflies instead of bees and ants...
I am working on a special gift for my flower giving GG friend. She will be so surprised when it shows up on her doorstep. It will be a few more weeks until it is finished but she will get it soon after..
There have been at least 3 days of thunderstorms here on the east coast. The rain is good for the veggies but bad for the Iris's. They are waterlogged and drooping to the ground. I am ready to mow them over and see if they will start over.
I am excited about getting some new periennels from a GG friend. I am going crazy waiting for Sunday to go pick them up.. I have a few ideas for a few new beds. I want to start a shade garden under the trees in the back yard and I really need to get a really really really big rock for a new rock garden. I checked online for all the plants I like now since the list is a choice of 25 shade plants, I have to decide which ones I like the most. I think I am going to draw the names out of a hat or I will never decide on the amount of plants I need to fill in the space...Don't want to over do it the first year. Hopefully, next year when they fill in a little, I will still be able to buy more since I like planting flowers in the spring.
Ready to move the Black-eyed Susans to the front yard, since they are not getting enough sun in the back. But the rain won't stop and the ground is too muddy. Pulled the weeds in the garden tonight while sinking in the mud, but it need to be done, the thistles were getting bigger than the onions and potatoe plants.
I have a few trees to trim in the front along the road, I can't see out of the driveway when I am leaving. Also, can't mow around them when you can't walk under them.. Hanging very low to the ground. I think they are water logged like the Iris's. I still have alot to do with the new beds. It is too wet to dig right now but I drew a picture of what I want it to look like. Hopefully the sun comes out from behind those thunder clouds on Saturday so I can get busy..
Today, the weather is perfect for gardening. I cleaned up the Iris flower bed yesterday and need to till around them to get ready for new flowers. I am going to put in more periennals. I have Lilies in with the Iris's ready to bloom.. I am getting more flowers for around the veggie garden, too. I am digging and tilling later on today. Hubby sleeps day time so I have to wait until after dinner tonight...I knew I bought him a Mantis for a reason. I get more use out of it than he does. I have a few beds around our shed that need tilled and I need to move the Black-eyed Susans, they are not getting enough sunlight. Not sure where to put them at this point ,maybe in a pot on the front porch (sunny all day) until they get bigger.
I added a few more pictures to my Albums. Take a peak!!! Learning a photo program, added a few of my favorites.
I need to get back to work before the kids get home. I can't clean her room unless she isn't here. Almost done....
