This has been a good week. Hubby and I did the yard on Thursday night. He used the riding mower and weed wacker, I used the push mower and did around the house and flower beds. Also, under the pines. The kids disappeared for a while..how convenient...Pulled weeds around the flowers and got poison on my arm again...comes and goes... planted a few more freebies from a friend. Watered everything even the veggie garden. The tomato plants are doing better since started watering this week... Then my daughter came out to swim for a while and I sat with a cup of coffee and relaxed for a while. She didn't get out until around 8:30.
Onions are almost big enough to pull. Pulled a few to use with the potatoes we dug up.. Good Eats!!! Our potatoes didn't do so well this year. Not enough sun. We had to remove a few small trees to get more sun to the veggie garden...My oldest helped with that on Wed night...He will use the wood to heat with this winter, so no complete loss....
Then it rained yesterday about 1/2 inch but enough to wet everything. I cleaned house yesterday and got a few things caught up..Decided to work on my baby quilt last evening and I was up until 3 this morning. Time flies when I am sewing...finished the front patches and now need to put the lace on, then the backing...I am using quilted material on the back, not so good with putting the batting in myself...Next project is to make a patch quilted tote bag...My biggest problem is to never finish what I start and have too many projects unfinished. I have a few other crafts to finish and one is for a GG friend. She is waiting, patiently I hope....I am determined to finish the baby quilt before I start anything else... except maybe something in the garden, LOL!!!
Daughter made a great big mess in the kitchen this morning..Something to do with a science project from school this past year...She had water, cornstarch and food coloring...it is in a bowl in the refrigerator. But the floor was powdered and pink..she tried to clean it up and made the most beautiful pink powder all over the kitchen floor and lower cabinet doors...Her punishment was to clean the bathroom..she did a perfect job in there while I cleaned up the pink powder...she is better with a toilet brush than a dish cloth...
Well that is all for now, need to work on that quilt before I come up with a new idea.....

Out in the garden tonight planting a few saved tomato plants from the local grower. Real cheap (4 packs less than a dollar). Some are Roma and the others are Golden Girl. I now have about 40 tomato plants in the garden.. I definately will be making alot of spaghetti sauce this year. Mixing all the tomatoes together will make the perfect color and flavor. The Roma are best for thickening the sauce. My husband used to buy Prego before I was here and now he won't eat any sauce but mine... The only problem is that I cook to taste and I really can give the recipe to anyone. My mother-in-law doesn't understand how I can cook without recipes... A lot of experience over the years and I guess it is stuck in my head. I cook more home made than she does.....
My daughter helped a little in between her adventures with a planter, seeds and the last of my potting soil. She planted lettuce and parsley. Sat it in the garden so it could get watered with the rest of it. She wants to make a rabbit trap so our bunny can have a friend..Cute!!!!
I had to remove a few branches from the tree behind the garden for the sprinkler to hit all the veggies...It has grown over the garden and next week when I am off work on Tuesday my son is coming out to cut a few branches around the garden so the sun can get in better...We didn't have a good spot that gets sun all day to put our garden in...
Well, then it started to get dark and I had to get her out of the pool and clean up my garden tools. Turned on the sprinkler and now need to remember to turn it off before I go to bed. Everyone have a good night and keep gardening... Veggie
Happy 4th everyone, I hope everyone had a great day...I forgot to take the kids to the fireworks display in town tonight because I was trying to get some things into the garden and get the weeding finished. Had to pick greenbeans and plant a few veggies I saved from the local grower. He was happy to sell them to me for .75 four packs...Trying eggplant and some head lettuce. Used the tiller and it made it so much easier to dig holes afterwards.
But to my surprise, the neighbors had a wonderful fireworks display and we watched from the backyard...The cat took off from the loud noise and my daughter kept saying "Wow", "Are they over", and yelling for more.. I told her the whole neighborhood could hear her and she yelled louder...They had a better display than the township did last year....I don't even know which neighbor had them, with the trees I couldn't tell where they were coming from..That is okay, they were still beautiful.
Hello everyone, I haven't been here for a few weeks. Nothing was going on in the garden except weeds.
I have new flowers on now, Asiatic lillies and bee balm. So pretty. The bee balm is from my GG friend and the lillies are from Walmart clearance last year for a dollar a piece.. I have white, pink, red and burnt orange.

Also, my balloon flower is ready to bloom. Purple is my favorite color.

I will download the bee balm pictures later. Pink and red...

I have been out all week digging, weeding, planting, watering, mulching and having fun. I received quite a few plants from a GG friend last weekend. I have been sorting thru trying to remember which ones are best in part sun and which ones want full sun and especially which ones like shade. I think I have it figured out. I took before and after pictures. The other things I have been doing is trying to remember all of the names..I seem to have forgotten most of them. You will see them in the pictures. Maybe my GG friend that gave them to me can remind me so I can mark them in the garden.
I want to make cute little markers that I can do with my daughter. She needs a new craft for this weekend. I saw the cutest rustic markers made out of sticks. I will have to look for that website again, forgot where I saw them.
A few I remember: Forget-me-not's, hostas, iris's, fern, a lot of ground cover, mint and Day lilly's to name a few.
The front bed is almost finished. I have to finish mulching. I decided to put newspaper under the mulch so the weeds don't have a chance. Most of the planting is done except for the new bushes my husband went to pick up this morning for the front of the house. I had a choice between a rose bush or a butterfly bush. I chose the butterfly bush (tricolored: blue, white, purple). I have a rose bush and one is enough for now....Would rather see butterflies instead of bees and ants...
I am working on a special gift for my flower giving GG friend. She will be so surprised when it shows up on her doorstep. It will be a few more weeks until it is finished but she will get it soon after..
Back to work not quite finished....
Could someone please tell me what this is?

There have been at least 3 days of thunderstorms here on the east coast. The rain is good for the veggies but bad for the Iris's. They are waterlogged and drooping to the ground. I am ready to mow them over and see if they will start over.
I am excited about getting some new periennels from a GG friend. I am going crazy waiting for Sunday to go pick them up.. I have a few ideas for a few new beds. I want to start a shade garden under the trees in the back yard and I really need to get a really really really big rock for a new rock garden. I checked online for all the plants I like now since the list is a choice of 25 shade plants, I have to decide which ones I like the most. I think I am going to draw the names out of a hat or I will never decide on the amount of plants I need to fill in the space...Don't want to over do it the first year. Hopefully, next year when they fill in a little, I will still be able to buy more since I like planting flowers in the spring.
Ready to move the Black-eyed Susans to the front yard, since they are not getting enough sun in the back. But the rain won't stop and the ground is too muddy. Pulled the weeds in the garden tonight while sinking in the mud, but it need to be done, the thistles were getting bigger than the onions and potatoe plants.
I have a few trees to trim in the front along the road, I can't see out of the driveway when I am leaving. Also, can't mow around them when you can't walk under them.. Hanging very low to the ground. I think they are water logged like the Iris's. I still have alot to do with the new beds. It is too wet to dig right now but I drew a picture of what I want it to look like. Hopefully the sun comes out from behind those thunder clouds on Saturday so I can get busy..

Today, the weather is perfect for gardening. I cleaned up the Iris flower bed yesterday and need to till around them to get ready for new flowers. I am going to put in more periennals. I have Lilies in with the Iris's ready to bloom.. I am getting more flowers for around the veggie garden, too. I am digging and tilling later on today. Hubby sleeps day time so I have to wait until after dinner tonight...I knew I bought him a Mantis for a reason. I get more use out of it than he does. I have a few beds around our shed that need tilled and I need to move the Black-eyed Susans, they are not getting enough sunlight. Not sure where to put them at this point ,maybe in a pot on the front porch (sunny all day) until they get bigger.
I added a few more pictures to my Albums. Take a peak!!! Learning a photo program, added a few of my favorites.
I need to get back to work before the kids get home. I can't clean her room unless she isn't here. Almost done....

I finally put more pictures in here today. Button is really adorable. 2 new albums Flowers and added to Button folder.
I love the rain at night, not so much during the day when I am home and want to garden...Take pictures and mow the grass... Yesterday was beautiful for the Memorial Day/birthday/graduation party...everything went smoothly.. I needed to nap today, a little too much yesterday and the rain today made me sleepy.
I was home for 4 days this weekend and needed to get out in the garden but couldn't with the weather. Too busy yesterday to get in the garden.. I am still trying to get those pictures downloaded to add a new album of my flowers. Also, took more pictures of Button this morning and I really think he likes it. He was showing off and jumping all over the place. He was playing Peek-A-Boo with me around the loveseat and when I couldn't find him for a minute he was actually on the loveseat watching me crawl around it on the floor...Very Cute...
He decided he was tired and laid down with me on the floor and took a short nap.. then decided he needed to go to the litter box. Then into his cage for a snack..I had to put up the baby gate to the bedrooms because he thinks hiding under the bed and not wanting to come out is Peek-A-Boo, but it is not!!!
Made a list of things to do today, accomplished nothing. The weather made me lazy and my husband works nights so since he was sleeping I figured I could too.

I thank God for the last few days. The rain comes and goes and the temperature is great for the veggies. It is great to have rain at night and sunny days. The plants are thriving. Except for those peskie weeds. I need to get the pine needles out from under the large pines and put them in the garden as weed control.. Last year we put manure in the garden from a horse farm. It had straw in it and now I am overrun by thistles.. Need gloves to pull those jaggy things. No problem it save the nails...
Most of my Iris's have bloomed (working on those pictures to download) The Day Lillys are full of buds, only a few of them have bloomed.... Can't wait for that beautiful sight. I want to get a few more of them for the other side of my porch.. Didn't finish the other side yet. Going to work on that for next season. The clearance sale at Wal Mart is the best way to start a new season..
Got an eye allergy this weekend. Swollen and itchy and watery... Can't see well with all of the swelling and water...Finally found the culprit.. Eye liner...I have experimented with many different kinds to see what is the best and the worst...Found the worst. THREW THAT AWAY!!!!
The slumber party went well with 6 little girls all between 3 and 9. Most of them are 7. Nobody got hurt and nobody cried. That is what makes it the best party ever.... They kept me up late and got me up early... I had to nap today. My daugther is stlll going strong without a nap...Go figure. How do they do it?
Veggie (working on the pics)
I put the greenbeans out the other day. They are doing well. I couldn't keep them in the house any longer, small greenhouse running out of room. Watered well and watched over daily. Making sure they survive the night time weather. Staying in the 50's so they should be ok. The snow peas are starting to bloom, put them out in March. Set up fence for climbing and they caught on to it in a day.
Took a few pictures of my flowers today. The Iris's are beautiful, only a year old. The Day Lilies are almost ready to bloom. Many buds on them this year. They are only 2 years old and doubled in size since I planted them. I am surrounded by Honeysuckle, the scent is in the air and it is wonderful... I can never remember the name of the plants at the front porch, but they are white w/ pink .. Check the pics in a few days after I download. They came in thick after one year. Want to get wild flowers in with the Iris's for next year, hopefully that will get control over the poison ivy I can't seem to get rid of... It is an old fence row for a farm field.. Still have a few of the old wooden fence posts in it. Want to get more of the post to put up a fence behind it, since it is against the road and it isn't quite finished. I need to add a few more flowers and remove a few more weeds... My small rose bush has double in size since last year and now I need to train it to go on the otherside of the mailbox since it is covering up the numbers on the post.. I might move the numbers instead of disturbing the rose bush, it has a bloom on it already... many buds. More than I expected so soon.
Also, the potatoes and onions are growing strong. Saturday is the best for me to tend to everything and pull weeds. Even though this holiday weekend there is alot to do for the picnic Monday...I make all the food and desserts..
My son will be 18 and graduating high school in the next few weeks, decided to make Monday a birthday and graduation party.. More cooking and this time a birthday cake on top of it all. My seven year old girl likes to help in the kitchen, so this will be a breeze..
good night for now,
veggie
