I have always wanted a home with a garage and a garden that I sewed. I am so blessed now. I have both. Not that I never had a garage, but never like one now, in California it is not the same, and not that I never tried to garden, but as long as I can remember I killed everything. :(
Now, for some amazing reason, I started buying flower plants and they lived. Then, crete myrtles, then salvia, then gerber daisies, then lantana, then daffodils, then narcissus, then tulips, now a veggie garden and so much more starting in the beginning stages. I really thought the side of the house would be the best place for the veggies and fruit due to it's size. I had my husband build another fence up by the front of the house even with our neighbors, and I removed the fence in the back so I could have the entire side of the house as my veggie garden. I had a man come in kill my grass and dump a lot of dirt on top so I could grow veggies in. I do not like the clay below the surface we have, so I built the garden up. Then, I bought manure and humus put on top and then planted my veggie plants with an organic fertilizing soil. I am now just waiting to plant some of the seeds I have been growing.
I am not sure if this place is so great now, due to the mushrooms growing all over, and the way that the sun is shaded because of my house. In the meantime, I am waiting to see, and it is there to be tested. Knowing that I will grow them somewhere even if this area does not work. If I have to move all of that dirt somewhere else I will.
All of this is such a peace to me. It is "similar" to the feeling I would get when I surfed the pacific ocean. Putting your board in the water, swimming out to the line, and waiting for a wave to come was so humbling. You, this tiny little being, many creatures below, and the vastness of the ovean that could swallow you up like nothing ever happened. You then swam to catch the wave and got a rush like nothing ever before while on that wave, and then go wait for another. In this time watching the dolphins play knowing that they were close to protect you. Knowing that they could protect you from anything that tried to harm you, even the waves. There is nothing like that feeling of being so close to nature yet knowing you are so small in size and in that time become aware of your truth in the world. Nothing relieved stress for me like that.
Nothing can ever take that feeling away or come sooo close to it, but watching my garden grow and flowers bloom at mine and natures's hand reminds me of why I have always said since a tiny little girl, that I am a flower child.
Your friend Tita.
