Yesterday I planted a blackberry bush as well as a blueberry bush. I read the blueberry bush package and realized that I need to get another blueberry bush in order for the first blueberry bush to pollinate. I also planted some perennial vegtables. Rhubarb and asparagus. Today I should get in the onions.
Last year I planted cucumbers and they did great. I am going to do that again this year. I ended up giving half of them away. Every year I plant tomatoes. Well since I can remember.
A few weeks ago I planted two types of raspberries and two types of grapes at my summer house down the cape in Hyannis.
I am only 27 years old and I feel like this world needs to go back to the way it used to be a hundred years ago. No more chemical fertilizers. Thus I started a vermicompost bin. What prompted this? Reading the book "The natural cures they dont want to tell you about". I think it is a must read for any american that wants to feel better. I know I don't feel ship shape. I have also began eating mostly organic. I crave organic bananas. It is like eating candy. Only it is better for me.
Hello all, I got my seeds today. I ordered a whole bunch of Basil seeds (different varieties) and my carrots (thumbelinas and little fingers) I am going out for the afternoon so I will probably plant them tomorrow. Everything else is going well. I thought it was going to rain last night (it looked like rain) but.....not a drop landed on my plants. I went out last night and watered the plants that needed it. Alot of my plants were dry and needed it but they are still alive and thriving. I can't wait to sink my teeth into my first home grown tomato. Take care all, Hugs to everyone.

Hello all, My garden is going great. Over the weekend I repotted my sunflowers, some of my tomato and herb plants. It seems I have to water just about every day now because it has been rather warm here. Some of the plants dry out so quickly. Maybe I am doing something wrong. I don't want to overwater but then again I don't want to be underwatering either. Anyway, the plants are thriving with things the way they are right now. Nothing is dying, not yet at least!! LOL
My boys want to plant carrotts (which they call crackets). I have ordered some carrott seeds for a few smaller varieties of them. I hope to have luck with them as well. Can't wait until I get them so I can start them. From what I read, I can sow the seeds every two weeks and keep the soil moving (to prevent freezing) during the winter and I will have carrotts all winter long. True????
My space is very very limited so I am trying to figure out how I am going to deal with my tomato plants when they get taller and the boys. My yard is so small and I can't put the boys outside in the front alone and I don't always have the time to stay out back with the boys when they are playing out there. I don't know how to deal with that just yet but I will think of something. I could try tomato cages but then I run the risk of the boys pulling off the greens and eating them. I could keep them up high.......that may not work either. I don't know what the heck to do. Any suggestions?
Well gotta run now. I am cooking dinner and don't want it to burn.
Take care all and hugs to all,
Jeanne
So, 2 days of work.
The first day clearing half of the overgrown mess, the second day
tilling in some worm castings (vermicompost).
This is all hand done, due to lack of space & equipment, haha…I worked it with a garden fork. Weeds, grass, various bulbs that I have no
use for…some volunteer blackberries (bane of the PNW) and spiders…and here I
have some garden space. This is only
half done, but the hardest part has been done, IMHO. I planted some Tomato’s, an Early Girl,
Beefsteak and a Cherry. I plan on
putting in some Sugar Snap Peas after I build a trellis for them. Personally? I
think I should have a ‘Get Out of Hell Free’ card for doing this…it IS a rental
house, after all! Check out the pics, tell me what YOU think! This spot does get FULL sun, so at least it will produce!

Hi!
I found this delightful site last Summer. I really enjoyed posting and receiving comments from "the gang." I got tips that I fully intend to use this coming season.
I have seasonal worries about avoiding aphids on my container tomato plants and keeping spider mites at bay that I'm always looking for the latest advice on.
I'm living in a condo, so as you can imagine, a balcony flower display is somewhat limited space-wise - that doesn't stop my interest in what other gardeners are doing. Never met a gardener I didn't like.
I had a beautiful flower garden when I had my house. Many happy hours trying to make everything perfect. It breaks my heart that I never thought to take photos of it before I moved. I've only got a couple of fuzzy shots of my back patio. You can view them on my photo album.
We will be moving to a much larger condo next March. Can't wait! It's still just a cement foundation - but at least they've started on it. I'll have a 15' x 25' north-facing patio in the new place. I'll really have to come up with lots of shade-loving plants to dress up my view. I'm looking forward to getting lots of tips and suggestions from the forum.
I'd like to share a garden with you. It's my childhood friend's and I love visiting it each Spring. She is a wonderful gardener. The garden is planted with perennials that don't need extra watering. She pretty much lets nature take its course. Take a look at the album I've put together and click SLIDESHOW - it's lovely. The garden is on an island on the Westcoast of BC where we get lots of rain.
Cheers!
