, Finding One
We live our lives and hope we find At least one person good and kind With which to share our time on Earth As we progress through life from birth.
Some will start with Mom and Dad And find no better can be had. That's prob'ly how it should really be. I know it's been like that for me.
While searching for the one we need, To nurture our loving seed, We often have a few false starts That build up walls and man ramparts.
They're built to keep ourselves from hurt Not have our hearts kicked through the dirt. These walls grow thick with every sorrow, Each a brick that stung our marrow.
And then you chance upon a one With powerful tools of love and fun To tunnel through that insulation Expose our core and cause elation.
So unexpected, so surprising But now as important as the sun rising. Just when you think you've got it covered, This forgotten part, rediscovered.
